About the Fire Department
Our Fire department in Pecan Plantation is made up of Volunteers. Our volunteers come from all different walks of life and professions. But one thing they have in common is the desire to serve our community.
Getting involved with a volunteer fire department is an incredibly rewarding way to make a positive contribution to your community. At Pecan Plantation VFD, we have a few different opportunities for volunteers. We, of course, have firefighters. But we also have drivers, Engineers, and fire support. We also have a Jr. firefighter program.
ISO Rating
What is an ISO Rating:
An ISO fire rating also referred to as a fire score or Public Protection Classification (PPC), it is a score from 1 to 10 that indicates how well-protected your community is by the fire department.
Pecan Plantation is rated at a 3.
There is a direct correlation between our low homeowner’s insurance rating and our ISO rating. For the past several years the PPVFD had been rated a Public Protection Class of 5 (fully protected) by ISO. Recently our PPC rating was lowered to 3. Municipalities with full time paid firefighters like Ft. Worth and Arlington have just gone from a PPC of 3 to a PPC of 2 with recertification. The lower the PPC number the lower your homeowner’s insurance premium. The PPC reduction from a 5 to a 3 will result in a 12% savings in commercial insurance rates which affects the PPOA buildings and 7% for homeowner’s rates. The objective is to provide the very best fire protection at the lowest insurance rate.
Training for the Fire Department
Training is usually held on the first Saturday of the month and the 3rd Thursday of the month. Mondays are the day to do truck check-offs and a great way to meet the crew or get more information about volunteering.
Hood County Fire Districts
We have a total of nine Fire departments that cover Hood County.
Pecan (Station 80) has a standing agreement with the County to respond to any incident that needs additional assistance.
Mutual Aid Agreement
PPVFD has an automatic mutual aid agreement within Hood. We also provide mutual aid to all adjoining Counties.

The Auxiliary
As the Fire Department is an all-volunteer Department, we rely on our Auxiliary organization to help with fundraising throughout the year.
A short message from the president of the Auxiliary.
“It is a privilege to be able to greet you in the name of the Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services Auxiliary. We are a group of neighbors who have come together to serve and show appreciation for our VFD and EMS by fundraising”.
In the meantime, we have come to know each other as friends through our meetings and events.
Men and women alike, come from all walks of life, bringing varied experiences and abilities, along with a servant’s heart, to our mission of providing PPVFD/EMS with equipment and materials that are not part of their County Funding. Each year we learn new ways we can help our Emergency Services, as they help our community!
